The Virginia Sportsmen’s Foundation, Albemarle Sheriff Chip Harding, and Virginia Beach Sheriff Ken Stolle present the Second Annual Hunter Skills Weekend at Liberty Corner Farm in Albemarle, VA on August 24 (9:00am-4:30pm) and August 25 (9:00am-12:00pm).

About the Course
In cooperation with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, the Virginia Sportsmen’s Foundation is hosting its annual Hunter Skills Weekend at Liberty Corner Farm in Albemarle, VA. Taught by Ike Wright, a registered Maine hunting guide and a Master Outdoor Hunter Education instructor with over 40 years of outdoor experience, course participants receive their required Hunter Safety Course certificate after 10 hours of classroom and hands-on instruction.

Designed to help the beginning hunter develop skills beyond the basic Hunter Education course, as well as teaching experienced hunters who may be interested in a new hunting discipline (crossbow, archery, muzzleloader, etc.), the program offers instruction in shooting, woodsmanship, and hunting techniques for a variety of species. The Hunter Skills Weekend is also made possible by 001 Outdoor Adventures, Albemarle Sheriff Chip Harding and Virginia Beach Sheriff Ken Stolle.

Important Details
Students should bring hearing and eye protection in addition to their own ammunition, shotgun, and or rifle if they plan on staying after the course is over for supervised shooting instruction.  Classes are held outside under a tent. Students (with a parent) are welcome to camp out over night. There is NO CHARGE for the course and the Albemarle Sheriff’s Office Foundation will provide a free wild game lunch both days from private contributions.

Note: All first time hunters (no previous license) and young people (age 12 through 16) are required by state law to pass a certified Hunter Safety Course (ten hours of instruction). The course covers wilderness survival as well as bow hunting, muzzle loading firearms, and modern shotguns and rifles.  Those completing the course will receive a certificate, I.D. card and a patch.  Open to ages 10 and up. Students in elementary & middle school must attend with parent.
